Tier 1 Entrepreneur
Introduction
If you want to start a business in the UK you may be eligible to apply for Tier 1 Entrepreneur leave. Any type of business is acceptable, but you must intend to work full-time running the business and you must also intend to invest at least £200,000 in the business. It is possible to apply from abroad for entry clearance as a Tier 1 Entrepreneur visa or, in some circumstances, you may be able to apply to "switch" immigration status in the UK, depending on which immigration status you hold.
You may start a new business or join an already-existing business.
Tier 1 Entrepreneur migrants may eventually acquire indefinite leave to remain and/or British citizenship.
Do I qualify to come to the UK to run my own business?
You will need to show that:
• You hold funds of at least £200,000 and that they are disposable in the UK
• You intend to work full-time in running the business
• You hold sufficient funds to support yourself and any dependants for a few months
• Have sufficient English language skills
Your initial leave will be granted for three years. At the end of this period you may be to apply for an extension, but you must be able to show that you have made an investment of £200,000 in the business and created two full-time positions. If these conditions are fulfilled, the UKBA will grant an extension to your leave.
